ASUU's DECISION & CLOSURE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF BENIN

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has decided to extend the ongoing strike by 8 weeks, stating that the government has refused to cooperate with the Union  Following the extension of the four week strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities,ASUU, and after due consultation with the Management of the University of Benin,the Vice Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami, on behalf of Senate, is closing down the University until further notice. The action has become expedient as there is no justifiable reason for students to continue to stay on campus when lectures and other academic activities are not going on. Consequently, students are to vacate the hostels within fourty-eight (48)hours of this notice.They are enjoined to monitor the situation closely inorder to be abreast of the school's eventual re-opening. The action taken by the Vice Chancellor of UNIBEN may hold that the ongoing strike would probably become indefinite. For more info......

RESUMPTION DATE: ASUU SAYS NO RESUMPTION UNTIL THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE 2009 AGREEMENT

        STRIKE UPDATE (as at March 8):  "There will be no resumption until FG Implement 2009 Agreement", ASUU Insists. Nigeria’s minister of education, Adamu Adamu, on Monday, gave a three-month deadline to the newly inaugurated committee saddled with the responsibility of renegotiating the 2009 agreement between the government and the university workers’ unions. The Unions include the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists. FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND ASUU TO MEET?

          The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will meet on Tuesday to find an amicable solution to the contentious issues that made the strike take effect.           Recall that ASUU had declared a one-month warning strike starting from Monday, February 14 to press home their demands.           Both the federal government and ASUU have been trading blames since the later declared industrial action as each is accusing the other of insincerity. However, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, who is the Conciliator-in-Chief of the Federal Government has scheduled to meet with the leadership of ASUU on Tuesday in his office. ASUU STRIKE UPDATE 2022

              It is no longer news that the Academic Staff Union of Universities {ASUU} has embarked on a one month warning strike in preparation for the worst just to get the attention of the government in order to press home their demands concerning the inability of the Federal Government of Nigeria to meet their demands.
